That’s quite the dad book.

Next stop is historical wargaming. Probably starting with Flames of War, before moving onto Bolt Action or Black Powder/Pike and Shotte. Soon after that you will be that one dad who refuses to play with the other historical groups because the blue the guy with the Napoleonic Prussian army used on the jackets was accurate to late-period units, when the uniforms were early period, and the shade should be slightly more gray.

Not saying it’s a bad thing, just that I’ve seen it happen and felt like a warning was in order.

I have this same book. It gave interesting view that any history book hasn’t told about WWII.

There are a bunch of books out there by average German soldiers telling their experiences. Try Enemies are Human by Reinhold Pabel. Former student working to become a priest. Drafted and eventually made Sargent level in the German army. Captured in Italy and sent to a US prisoner of war camp in Illinois. One of almost none who escaped from US camps. “Captured” many years later in the bookshop he owned with his wife in Chicago - and then deported!

It’s tough being a soldier in the loser’s side. I have to keep the name of that book in my mind.
